Venice Sketchbook

Fabrice Moireau set up his sketchbook in Venice: the reflections of the Grand Canal, the stone of the Ca’ d’Oro, the narrow lanes and the campi where the city shows itself away from the crowds. His watercolours follow the water and the light rather than the tourist trail. The text is by Deborah Howard, a historian of Venetian architecture, and by Tudy Sammartini, a Venetian who has devoted her books to the art, the architecture and the gardens of her city: between them, they know the stones they write about. The Venice of the lagoon, of marble and winter light.
